OUR FOOD BANK

We have recently been delivering on average a food parcel every week as times get tough for some families. We have plenty of tinned foods except tinned fish, but we could do with more of the following: tea, sugar, coffee, honey, marmite, pasta, rice, weetbix etc.    Thank you to everyone for past contributions,  David Graham

What a Positive Annual Meeting we had Last Sunday!!

Thank you to everyone for participating so freely and confidently. Thirty-nine people took part in the meeting.
The congregation passed the following motions at the Annual Meeting:

  1. The Budget was presented by Ian Bogue was adopted with an amendment moved by Rob Ripley, seconded and carried by 22 votes to 9,
"that the amount for the Building Maintenance Fund be reduced from $17,000 to $8500 and the other $8500 be allocated for Church Growth."
  2. Chris Bedford moved (as part of his report), it was seconded and agreed "That the new Church Council be asked to form a workgroup from members of the congregation to review the best options for a worship centre that would serve both church and community to the mid 21st century, and bring a proposal for new development to a future congregational meeting within the next 9 months."
  3. Moved by Chris Bedford and seconded by Anne Green, and it was agreed "that the Resource Committee obtain 3 quotes on the roof replacement/repair and report back to congregation by the end of October."
  4. 4 John Graham moved, Sherilyn Shand seconded and it was agreed that "The Reports of Session Clerk, Resource Committee, Pastoral Committee, Outreach Committee and APW be accepted".
  5. Pauline Fish was elected to the Church Council.

One person commented, "We had more discussion than we have had at an AGM for quite some time, and much of it very positive."

Church Council meets on Tuesday 14 September.

Resource Committee meets on Tuesday 21 September.

The next Blokes@Bedford's lunch will be on Thursday 23 September at midday – at Chris Bedford's place, of course!

Living in Christ
FOLLOWING JESUS is a non-negotiable principle for Christians. We cannot follow Jesus for long unless we are in Christ, living in him. We renew our strength, find direction, and gain confidence by cultivating the presence of Christ within—through prayer, immersing ourselves in scripture, and spending time with God's people so that we act— we follow—from the depths of living in Christ.

Parish News

1 Graham Langridge expects to be home from hospital on Monday (tomorrow), and is making steady progress to a full recovery.

2 Freda Dingley is in hospital and making slow progress after a slight stroke.  Remember her and Geoff in your prayers.  Freda celebrated a birthday on 31 August while in hospital - we will sing to you in Church!

3 Ena Milroy is still at home awaiting her hip replacement and getting her health up to speed before the operation.

4 Kay Wesley performed well in her new Grade B Division at the Special Olympics Indoor Bowls Ribbon Day last Sunday at Kristen School.  She had a 4th place ribbon with her team of four.  Well done, Kay!

5 Shirley Bowker celebrated a special ZERO birthday on 31 August.  Many happy returns of the day, Shirley.  May you have many more to follow.  ¥? ¥? ¥? ¥?

6 Jan Lepine, one of our Mainly Music helpers (and Glenys Skudder's sister!) welcomed a second grandson, Jeremy Timothy, a few weeks ago.  Christine (nee Lepine) her daughter, was a member of our Youth Group some years ago.

7 Barbara Wesley flew down to Christchurch for two days to hold the new granddaughter, Zara Marie, and make soup and semolina for Richard!  Elodie and baby are fine and thriving.
